Meet Greg
Greg Monroe is a born-and-raised, 35-year Ann Arbor resident, a product manager in technology, a pragmatic problem solver, a lover of nature and the outdoors, and someone who is eager to represent you and your voice on City Council in Ward 5.
Today, his role in product management is built around engaging stakeholders, prioritizing and understanding problems, and working collaboratively to create solutions. He defines success with clear, measurable outcomes. He'll bring that same problem-first mindset to Council.
After moving back home during the pandemic, Greg recalls being struck by his appreciation for Ann Arbor's access to immersive nature right in the city. Places like Argo, Bird Hills and the Arb. He remembers taking long walks through the quiet streets of our neighborhoods, marveling at the housing stock and wondering why he ever left in the first place, reaffirming his desire and pride to call this city home.
Greg's journey into local politics began one evening last spring, when he came across what he describes as environmental devastation along Longshore Drive while on a run — a wooded hillside across from the Argo Nature Area clearcut, with a sign advertising luxury condos coming soon. This set him on a path speaking at City Planning Commission meetings that ultimately led him to pursue a bid for City Council.
Greg has no long-term political aspirations. He's running because he feels residents have lost their seat at the table and the stakes are too high to stay on the sidelines. The decisions being made right now like zoning reform and development policy have long-term consequences and deserve real deliberation. He'll bring back accountable, transparent governance—and that starts by listening to you.
